niece

While I slept my sister gave birth. Leyla (layla, leila, sp?) was born at 4:20am, weighs in at 7lb 8oz and is 20 inches long. I am about to head to the hospital to see my newborn niece and my sister right now. I'll post pictures when I get back.

I drove up to washington tonight to be with my sister when she gives birth to her first (and most likely only) daughter. I arrived at the hospital at approximately 9:30pm and my sister was pretty out of it due to the pain brought on by the contractions. She told me that she has been having contractions since 5am this morning and that they have been fairly regular all day long. She was really tired and I'm sure also very very sore. After twenty minutes or so a nurse came in to give my sister a shot of morphine and antihistamine (don't quote me on that, medically inclined folk) so that she can sleep. After waiting with her and Peter for several hours I decided to head back to their house in Olympia to get some rest. Which is where I am now.

The waiting game begins...

They will give me a call tomorrow (sunday, which is actually today) when my sister goes into labor. Until I get the call I'm just going to wait around and do my homework; which I have a lot of. I'll post pictures as soon as I can take them.

My sister went into labor this afternoon. I'm leaving for Washington to be with her and Peter (her husband) at the hospital. I will be back in town sunday night or monday afternoon. See you all later.

I received my passport in the mail yesterday. I was going to take a picture of it and put it up so all could see but then I remembered that I have a crazy sister that would probably kill me if I did that. Speaking of which are you all aware that my sister is pregnant? No? How could you not know, she's HUGE.. I'm talking as big as a house..Ok honestly she's not that big at all. A typical normal pregnancy, gained just enough weight to have a healthy baby.

Awesome!!.. I'm going to be an uncle very soon. It's going to be great. Do you have any idea of how much fun I am going to have at Toy-R-Us when I'm shopping for her (leyla, layla, leila or however it's spelled this week)?? I'm already eyeing her first chemistry set, I looked for the "My first dissection" set but I couldn't find it. Eh, she can make little bombs with her chemistry set. Yes, Yes I know that she's not even born yet but that's ok. I'll mix up the chemicals and put themin her rattler and she can mix them up . She would be an active participant and that's the key you have to start out young. If she's making weird chemical bombs as a child just think about what she'll be making when she grows up. Yup that's right BIG bombs.. how cool would that be. I'd walk around town just telling people "Hey Yo, what's up, ya my niece makes bombs, she could blow this whole place up". No honestly, how cool would that be?? Seriously think about it.... no you're wrong, it would be cool.

Actually my first purchase for her will be baby beethoven and works from other composers. I haven't told my sister this yet...well maybe I have... eh it doesn't matter she knows now ;) . Today is the 18th and my sister is due within the next 7 days. Time is ticking down........
Update: What was I thinking?!? that baby beethoven link is to a DVD.. F@wk that! Ain't no niece of mine gonna be sucked into a boob toob as a child. She has her whole life to ruin her life I don't need to do it for her. Uh uh, no how. I'm going to be getting her the audio cd, something for her to listen to not something to watch. I want her to use her brain and not zone out into a television screen (nor do I want her to zone out on a computer).  

Don't worry I'm going to be taking pictures like crazy and I will definitely post them on my website. Look for a "My supa-dupa niece" link on my website after this weekend. I'm going to do some very quick site enhancements this weekend. The first one is to add a "My Supa-Dupa Niece" link to a gallery of pictures of my new niece (ya ya, deal with it Athena, the world is gonna see the girl cuz' your brother's a geek). The second addition is to add back the pictures from reddingfamily.com. The site used to be around but its dead now. The third is a new feature to receive an email when I update my blog. I know a few people read this blog (right??) so I'm going to make it easier for you to be notified of when I post a new update. This will be especially useful when I'm overseas for the summer as updates will be sporadic at best (my assumption at least).
