Ordering dumplings in Chinese

Well my spirits are back and if you watch this video you'll know why. This afternoon I went to a dumpling restaurant for lunch but not only could I read the sign of the restaurant's name but I could also read about 20% of the menu (maybe 30%). That was, apparently enough for me to go into the restaurant alone and order off a menu that contained no numbers, no pictures and no English. When it gets down to it if you don't read Chinese you're not ordering from this restaurant.

OK before you start thinking that I can actually speak and read this language let me attempt to translate my conversation with the waitress. The misspelling and bad grammar is intentional.

Me: Hairo
Her: Hello, its blah, blah, blah, cold, blah, blah
Me: yus tis feld today
Me: I cen sut dar? (pointing)
Her: yes, you can sit blah, blah, blah, blah OK?
Me: OK (thinking to myself.. what did she say after sit)
Her: What would you like?
Me: I would like day tea
her: Hot tea?
Me: (fixing pronunciation) OH, yes, yes Hot tea
Her: Would you blah, blah, pot blah, blah tea blah, blah, blah cup
Me: cop, cop, plis
some various conversation exchange and now we get to the ordering
Me: I wood lick one odor da exploded dumplings
The word for fried and exploded is the same except for tone, one is 2nd tone the other is 4th. I'm pretty sure I said it in 4th tone.
Her: Sorry we don't have those. We have blah, blah, chicken blah, blah, blah, pork, blah, blah, blah, some vegetable thing, blah, blah, blah, blah. you blah blah want?
Me: I wood like some old sour flower dumplings
Her: Huh?
Me: (pointing to menu)
Her: OH, Dumplings with aged vinegar andd peanuts! Sorry, we don't have those.
Her: we have....
Me: Boiled lamb dumplings please

OK now for the disclaimer. Boiled lamb dumplings is what Diana and I ordered the first time we went to this restaurant and it was my fall back. I asked for four different items and they were out of all of them. These four items, with several variations, were about the only items that I could read on the menu... so I was stuck.

Back to the studying!
